Good, cheap places to stay?

topic posted Fri, January 4, 2008 - 3:09 PM by  Nate
Ok, planning a trip down to Disney land and wanted to find some good recommendations for a cheap, safe, place for a couple to stay?

I've been looking on craigslist, etc and just wanted to find out if there are any recommendations out there.

Most any of the major chains around the park meet the requirements. I am fond of the Super 8, but recommend it only if you're either driving or don't mind cab rides/long walks. There are also a TravelLodge, Motel 6 and pretty much any other motel chain that operates on the West Coast within very close distance of the park.

Most of the uglier motels - Pitcairn, Jolly Roger, etc. - have all been bought out and either rebuilt or razed. I'm not as active a motel guest in the area as I was about ten years ago, but the overall quality level seems to have gone up.

I just spent the weekend at the Holiday Inn-it was lovely, and only $89 a night.

They sell multi-day tickets at the hotel, offer free parking, and a shuttle for $3 a person to the park and back.

I will be staying at the Budget Motel at the back part of the Park. I have read nothing but good things about the property and the people that are there. I got a deal for $48 a night through Cheaptickets.com. Definitely look at that site if you are on a tight budget just beware of the Alamo in on Harbor... heard it's really really bad.

I recommend the Candy Cane Inn.
Its right next door to the main gate, on the park side of the street. Just a short stoll to to DL.
It includes continental breakfast, and they offer park tickets at the front desk at a slight discount.
The emenities were good, and the price was reasonable.
PS: We traveled w/ a 3.5 year old, so we loved the FREE private shuttle that takes you to/from DL hourly.

check out the goggle map near the park, see what there is, and check around. Sometimes you get really good deals on the hotel websites, and some hotels have rewards programs, which can also add to your savings...
