Pardon me if this is a redundant thread, but -

What's the status of Mr. Lincoln these days?
Is it open all the time? Are there scads of people cramming the lobby and pressing their faces to the glass on the mock-up of Walt's office?

I haven't been since February of '06. And I didn't see Mr. Lincoln that trip because I was SO PISSED OFF about what they did to the attraction.
I hate the headphones, I hate the lame storyline about getting my hair cut and being a photographer and on and on. LAME.

I guess there's no market for American history? (I don't believe that one lick.)

And what ever became of the whispered (or not-so-whispered... been outta the Disneyland loop for awhile) plan to turn Critter Country into something more European in keeping with the Pooh theme? ("Disneyland is dedicated to the ideals, the dreams, and the hard facts that have created AMERICA..." Anyone? Anyone?)

And how about The Enchanted Tiki Room? I heard they cut the show down to ten minutes or some such ridiculousness??

*sigh*
I'm going to go play in traffic now.

Yeah I heard they cut down the Tiki Room show. As far Lincoln, I'm not sure if it's still there. They had another thing for the 50th I think. But it's been a while.

dont dish the mouse house.. I'ms just a sayin.....

was just there twice, in a week, with teens and a 4 year old...
Now, wheras I have been going all my life, some things are glad are gone and others I miss. I miss the people mover, and Tron, but only when it was the whole length. Other then that it was just a I need to sit and get off my feet ride. Same with Innerspace... Cheesy!! and when you go as a teen and are not with a member of the opposite sex who isnt a relative, can be very why am I here..... Much prefer Star Tours.. never been on Pooh. I hope they put Mr Lincoln.. well the entire hall of presidents back, cause that was impressive... well a lot more impressive 15 years ago. and we definetly missed seeing Walts office... but the Steve Show was clever and informative, as much as you can be with such a large subject and a short amount of time. Small world?? UGGHHHH only cause we had said 4 year old....
Tiki room?? well ok so the big number isnt there, but as far as I know all of the singing is there and that counts. Again, with said 4 year old probably the extent of the attention span.. sat each time... almost same place.. still worth it.. ok always worth it..

whoops better stop.. cause I could go on and on..

and yes Screaming was shut down when we went.. but love Soaring, and *have* to get the Chili Fries from Condor Flats next time... they looked fantastic...

and and Crush Talk rocked dude.......

so well, yes i enjoy the new stuff, and fondly remember the old stuff...

And yes there is a lot more from the two seperate days.. but..... :-)

and I had no idea the So Ca pass was only 154.... who needs to go on a saturday anyway

Wow, I don't know where you get your information from but it's a little... off.

Mr. Lincoln, as of the last trip I made in May, was still MIA in lieu of the DL 50th Anniversary hosted by Steve Martin. It's a 20 (or so) minute movie about the beginnings of Disneyland, etc., etc. There isn't any word if the president will be brought back or not.

As far as I know, there is no whispering about changing Critter Country into something more European. It would clash with the decidedly not-European ride Splash Mountain... there are a few Disneyland boards that you can check out for more detailed information. Just search with your preferred search engine.

Tiki Room being pared down? I don't think so! It's the same show that has been happening since the attractions debut. But I have been known to be wrong...

Disneyland is still a great and wonderful place to go and play. Sadly we can't always protect the things that we love... change being inevitable and all that.

Yeah the Tiki Room (in CA) has been cut down. It's actually been cut quite a bit since it's origin. They used to have an awesome Rochmaninov portion that hasn't seen the light of day in years.

      Change is inevitable, I know.

I only made it harder on myself by poring over "Disneyland: The First Quarter Century" for most of my life.

I know what's changed, and I know what I liked.
And never the twain shall meet.

      Don't get me wrong -
I still get weepy with joy walking under the Railroad and onto Main Street (after standing in security lines for half an hour)...
      But it ain't the same.

      Still magical.
      Just not as much.

And NOT because I'm just older.

BTW... Don't remember where I'd heard about Critter Country, but it was some time ago. Sue me for playing catch-up.

Mr. Lincoln was moved from the Opera House for the 50th. In it's place is the Steve Martin-narrated tribute to Disney. The lobby and such has/had a significant amount of Disneyland memorabilia, but I've been told that this has mostly been taken out recently.

I do not know (and apparently not many folks at all know) what the eventual status of Great Moments will be. Sadly, it's not been a very guest-popular attraction for the last several years, and the relatively recent updates only spiked attendance for a short period of time. I would be saddened - but unsurprised - if the theatre converts permanently to other uses.

Pooh never caught on. I'd guess that if the lines reached further than Splash, you'd see a complete reworking. As it is, the very few times I have made it back to that area I've not seen more than a few minutes wait. Miceage has rumors about potential upgrades to fix the lackluster elements.

Tiki room I'm unsure of how long the show runs. I went a few times relatively recently, and the only change I still see is the cut from long years ago to remove the Offenbach/"magic fountain" section. They *did* clean the attraction up and fix a large amount of non-working animatronics. The last time I was there they had several "down" birds (rimshot), but I'm hoping that was temporary.

A lot has changed in Disney corporate culture recently. The ascension of Lassiter was probably the best thing to happen to the CA resort - witness the 1.2 BILLION that is approved to renovate/fix DCA as well as the significant chunk allocated to updates/redos at Disneyland. A decade ago I was losing any hope that Disneyland would be... "special"... again. Current management is changing my mind.

Offenbach! That's it! That's what I meant! Yeah, the last time I went before I left CA one of my friends happened to be working there. She didn't tell me what was cut, but I did notice that the Pre-Show was cut very short.

At least it isn't Disney in the 80's.... just bad marketing and no one wanted to go.

I think that there has been some positive motions for the Disney company and I continually hope that they keep this trend going. I go at least once a month and I am always excited to see new and exciting changes happening.

I heard a rumor once that the back area where Pooh is now was to be converted to a Notre Dame themed land, but since the film had such mixed reviews nothing ever happened. If anyone has info on this, I would love to hear more!
      • Re: Mr. Lincoln.

        Thu, August 30, 2007 - 3:52 PM
        Wow, Notre Dame?!
They kinda did that, didn't they, with the whole Feast of Fools thing out by Big Thunder?
Didn't last very long, if I remember aright.
God, what a crap movie that was.
(Sorry if any of you kids liked it.)

And I hate to further my bitching, but -
        I can't stand California Adventure.
So spaced out, and so much wasted space.
It was deserted when I was there. AND California Screamin' went offline the second we got near it.
Tower of Terror was fun, but the backstory was lame lame lame. No H. Mansion, that.

I shoulda named this thread Gripes, I guess.
Sorry, gang. I have misguided passion.

Festival of Fools was a great hit! It was very much loved by the crew and cast. While CA adventure is a ok, ToT is an excellent addition. It was never meant to be a "Haunted Mansion". It came from Florida where they have an extended version of the ride. Florida has an "Old Hollywood" style street where the ride fits in better. They have realized the wasted space and will be using it to it's full potential when Woody's Carnival game ride thingy shows up.
          • Re: Mr. Lincoln.

            Thu, August 30, 2007 - 4:03 PM
Well, if the extendo version of ToT is so great they shoulda used it here, too.
I know it's not meant to be Mansion-esque.

I just feel like it kinda tried to do *some*thing and ... didn't.

And while we're at it -

It's my understanding that the younger generation (does that include you, BMR?) didn't care for the People Movers.
            Too boring. Too outdated.

Fine. I'll buy that. (Won't subscribe, though.)

And Rocket Rods was a disaster.
            Any plans for the track?

            Also -
I'd take Circlevision over Buzz Lightyear any day of the week.

Can someone please make It's a Small World look less like a convention center with bad lighting?
Thank you. Those ceiling tiles are abysmal.

You must forget who you're taking to... I am 1st off a Disney WHORE and LOVED the People Mover. You got to go through TRON for god's sake!

2nd, the ToT extended could NOT be built here as they didn't have the room. The ToT @ DCA already is built 2 stories underground. They had enough of a time getting it built out here. If those two stories were built above ground they would have to file more permits for air regulation. You'll notice it (from what I recall) doesn't have the little red lights at the top to warn airplanes.

As far as the rocket rod tracks, there will always be rumors. Again they tried to copy something from Florida (in this case Test Track) and they failed.

Small World? What? Have you not seen Florida's? We have the better building IMO. Florida has an entrance much like the Fantasyland dark rides. Unless you're looking for it, you're going to miss it.

I knew I loved you for a reason.
TRON was the super shit. Still would be, if we could go through it.
(Did you know that Eo is available on YouTube in it's entirety? I bet you did. I didn't. Until yesterday.)

                Now, lemme clarify -
I LOVE Small World. The facade is glooooooooorious.

It's just the inside. The dolls need a little help and the lighting's not so hot.
I don't like being able to see an actual ceiling on a ride at Disneyland.
                Just seems wrong.

I tell people about it now and they go "Err, what?! Michael Jackson sux!" Then I punch them in the face!

And I have to agree with you about the People Mover! I LOVED that ride as a kid! Tron was my favorite movie growing up and I couldn't get enough! I made my Mom take me on it like 3 times. Needless to say the 4th time I asked, it was a straight "NO!!" ^_^

True the lighting needs help, and the dolls as well. Remember this ride is not far behind Tiki Room in age. The one thing that makes this ride stand the test of time is the concept artist Mary Blair. Google image her work as well.

                  en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mary_Blair

I think with this ride they're trying to keep the original style. It' seems very dated, but a lot of very cool designs going on.

This is only my thoughts, but it still is a Disney original. Even with the crappy dolls.

Yeah, I remember that too... it's a shame that it didn't last longer. The movie was good, but I think the heavy religious overtones were too much for most. Of course, they were doing a movie about the Hunchback of Notre Dame....

DCA is all right, it just needs to have a more overall theme. A park about California in California is, well, interesting. But for those that don't live here, it's not bad. There are some major upgrade going on right now. They are adding in Toy Story Mania where the Boardwalk and Midway Games once were. It should provide more of the Magic that has been lacking these last few years.

You should go back again for the Holidays... that has always made a bigger and more magical inpression than the usual. :)

            And I haaaaaaaaaaate Christmas.

            But not at Disneyland.

Lutz has an amazing track record with his gossip/rumor page over at miceage. He's currently predicting a very tentative reopening of SOMETHING on the peoplemover track as well as the obvious budgeted wholesale changes over at DCA.

However, I will say that I am kinda fond of DCA. I don't think it remotely compares to Disneyland, and was a horrible attempt to place shopping as a priority over... er... everything (Damn you Pressler!).

There are definite redeeming "Disney" moments to the park, though. Mostly new ones - the Monsters, Inc. redo of Superstar Sucka... er... Limo is a radical improvement, and while it's not an E ticket by any stretch of the imagination, I'd say it compares favorably with the classic Fantasyland dark rides. ToT is what it is, and there's a reason that there will soon be one in every resort cluster. Screamin's a decent coaster, and I'm too much of a classic park junkie to not be in love with CA having one of the very few "wonder wheels" in existence.

But what convince me most is the combination of the lack of usual crowding combined with the ready access to alcohol. Cove Bar. Rita's whatever they call their weak margaritas. The Wine Bar Formerly Known As Mondavi. The Karl Strauss beer cart. Booze at most of the sit down restaurants.

It's selfish, but there's really something to be said to getting moderately sloshed and going back over to Disneyland for a run on the Autopia. LEGAL DRUNK DRIVING!

Here's the standard gossip sites I usually use. Used to go to Laughingplace, but they seriously need to just plaster "approved by Disney PR Weasels" on every page.

                  mouseplanet.com
                  miceage.com
                  jimhillmedia.com

They're all three linked with what used to be the most reliable Disneyland rumor site, the Disneyland Information Guide. They changed to Mouseplanet, Jim Hill split somewhere in there, and eventually the founder left to form Miceage.

Don't know if you have been since you posted this, but Mr Lincoln is still down. I don't know when they are planning on scrapping the Walt's Fifty First Years thing. Until Feb. I was a Cast Member, I think they are leaving Great Moments down until the end of A Year of a Million Dreams pt Deux. There is all sorts of fun history in the lobby right now about the park including a scale model/replica. Still worth seeing if you go though.
